>> reporter: this is an area that just in 2003 was ravaged by hurricane fabian. this storm igor that may be coming through is a hurricane that's following a similar path, and might bring some of the same type of damage. fabian killed four people, caused damage across the island and knocked power out for up to three days. this time with this storm, igor, we spoke with the minister david birch. he says they're ready. >> we're ready. i'm very pleased to say that, you know, we are taking it seriously, and we don't normally because we got threats of hurricanes all the time. but we have an emergency management organization that's well geared up for this, and i'm pleased to say that people are taking it seriously and they are prepared for it. we will suffer some damage, no doubt about it. this is the biggest storm in about 23 years. a little stronger than fabian even. but people are prepared and we build for hurricanes. so i'm not at all concerned about damage or loss of life if people do what they're supposed to do and people do what they are prepared to do. >> reporter: igor is a muc

hit. tropical storm karl may strengthen to a hurricane. igor, julia, in the atlantic. there's a look at karl, working in through the open waters of uh, the bay of campeche. we'll talk about that one coming up. for us, cloudiness overhead. two-degree guaranteed high taking us out of the 60s this morning to 84 and cloudy this afternoon. check on that traffic right now. see how it's rolling with kim brown. >> good morning, everyone, the only incident that you may see on the roadways this morning is coming out of glen burnie. we have fire activity at baltimore annapolis boulevard, mountain road. aside from that, traffic is really off to a fantastic start, no problems here with drive times on the 895 uh, harbor tunnel thruway. seven minutes between the split and 295. no problems southbound 95 between the beltway and route 32. that'll take you about 16 minutes, outer loop, southwest corner of the beltway. as we look right now at our camera, you'll see traffic moving very well. light volume on the beltway, harford road. it's looking good on the west side as well. >> a minute after
storm. -- hurricane igor has been a power-packed store. the eye of the storm is well- defined and continues to produce with estimates of 145 miles per hour at the center. 155 miles per hour and above this category five. it might even get a little rubber deceiving. further to the north, you can see the clouds moving from west to east. it will encounter this wester the share which will start to weaken the story a little bit. this will generally move in the direction of bermuda. and little further east, julia has become a hurricane. it is now a category one. the big what is hurricane igor. a category four storm about 180 miles from hamilton, bermuda. it does look like we will see this storm weakening but moving in the general direction of bermuda. this bread, is the possibility. you can see a wide range of possible tax, but the center line is the most likely. that will take it pretty close to bermuda with still category three status with 115 mile per hour winds. with any luck, it will weaken a little further and not have a direct hit. something to watch over the next few days as
. hurricane igor is on the move, and it is pounding the gulf of mexico. in house been downgraded. but david has the latest -- it has been downgraded. >> it has been downgraded, but it is a direct hit on bermuda, and residents are taking it very seriously. everyone was told this could be the biggest they have seen. since then, it has been downgraded, but residents are still worried about it. winds have been clocked up to 85 miles per hour. the real concern is the storm surge, running 5 to 6 feet, and what that could do is that some of the low-lying areas in bermuda to be affected. once a do, hurricane igor passing through. there was a hurricane seven years ago that killed four people. that was a category 3, but perhaps it will not do what igor is going to do. this is just reaching bermuda, the center of the storm to pass just to our west. already, most of the island is without electricity. it is going to be a long night, and in the morning, we will hear how much damage igor has caused. >>> the 11:00 update just came out about 25 or 30 minutes ago. it is actually to the west of bermuda, and t

the latest on igor. guay off indialantic is a tropical storm julia pureed -- way off in the atlantic is a tropical storm julia. it looks like igor will be very close to bermuda by saturday as a category 3 storm. it is a big storm, but for now at least out in the middle of nowhere in the atlantic. the heights tomorrow will be in the mid 80's and below will be 63. 86 in fredericksburg and 86 in frederick. if you take the next six or seven days an average it out, we're pretty much where we should be. a couple of days above average and a couple of days below. no major storms to talk about across the continental u.s. the little bit of rain that we had yesterday was to wash the pollen count out of the air. we may see a scattered showers on friday. tamara, breezy and in the-degree range. -- tomorrow, breezy and in the 80-degree range. by friday, a chance of a few showers and it will cool off again just in time for the weekend. 62 degrees in the mid cities and in the 50 cozied in the suburbs by morning. -- in the 50's in the suburbs by morning. by thursday, a for 70's. saturday and sunday an
